In addition to effective bone repair ability, the implanted scaffolds should have no malign effects on other tissues and organs, especially on those major organs such as heart, liver, and kidney. Therefore, the heart, liver, and kidney of the rats after implantation of various polymeric scaffolds for 8 weeks were examined by hematoxylin and eosin staining. Implantation of P-PUU scaffolds produced no obvious histological abnormality or lesion, suggesting desirable in vivo biosafety of P-PUU scaffolds.
