Fig (a) illustrates the nanoscale MC carbides of the V20 weld metal, derived from the APT analysis and delineated with a 5 at% (C + V) level iso-concentration surface marked in purplish-red. The representative example of the nanoscale MC carbides from Fig (a), indicated by the dashed red circle, is further investigated in Fig (b), in which the proximity histogram concentration profiles of the nanoscale MC carbide are displayed. The enriched C, V, and Mo of the near-centre region in this precipitate, according to several points on the positive distance sides of the diagram, were anticipated to be V-rich and Mo-rich carbide. The C concentration of approximately 50 at% in this carbide was almost the same as (V + Mo), suggesting that the chemical composition of this precipitate was closer to V0.5Mo0.5C.
