Described herein are long-acting artificial tears and the method for their preparation. Specifically, artificial tears which can bind the ocular surface were obtained by installing PBA functionalities to polymeric active ingredients of artificial tears. This is a general and economic strategy applicable to various polymeric active ingredients of artificial tears, thus facilitating large-scale fabrication of long-acting artificial tears.
