Based on the alcoholysis of PVAc, PVA with low alcoholysis degree was prepared by controlling the amount of sodium hydroxide in methanol (alkaline alcohol) solution. The alcoholysis degree of PVA is in the range of 30-70%. The resin particles can be swelled and dispersed in water, and further with the help of waterborne curing agent, to form dense coats.
