0.05 mmol iron acetylacetonate and 0.05 mmol ruthenium acetylacetonate were dissolved in 5 mL EtOH containing 0.1 mmol 1,10-phenanthroline to prepare the precursor solution. 30 mg of CNS was dispersed in another 2 mL of EtOH, followed by addition of 100 mL of precursor solution. After rigorous stirring for 2 h at room temperature, the CNS loaded with Fe and Ru precursors was collected by removing the solvent. The black powder was then calcinated at 600 °C for 2 h under N2 with a heating rate of 5 °C min−1. Finally, the as prepared sample was washed with 2 M HCl to remove metal particles, then followed by washing with water and drying in an oven for future use.
