Lithium (Li) is selected as an alloying element because of the possible hardening ability of the Zn+β-LiZn4 eutectic structure, as shown in the Zn-Li binary phase
diagram (Fig. 1(a)), which has been verified in Zn-0.4Li and Zn-0.7Li (wt%)
alloy.β-LiZn4 has a close-packed hexagonal structure (HCP) with the lattice
parameters of a = 0.278 nm and c = 0.439 nm, as illustrated in Fig. 1(b).
